New Blog for the SSP

Welcome to the new blog site for the Society of St. Polycarp (SSP). Here, you will find posts from members of the SSP related to our Society and its Rule, along with theological nuggets, quotes from church fathers, SSP happenings (including our Society's quarterly newsletter, The Polycarpian, which will resurface into publication this September), and general musings from various SSP members whenever the mood strikes them to share.

Our old blog site can be found here. We hope to redirect visitors to that site here in the near future.

We have posted information about the SSP in the right column of our blog's home page, along with the Rule to which members of our Society voluntarily commit themselves, which you can peruse at your leisure and gain an understanding of what the SSP is about. As noted beneath the Rule, for more information about the SSP, or to inquire about joining our brotherhood, please contact our Dean, Fr. Thomas C. Messer, at pastormesser@gmail.com.

More to come soon . . .

Ad Majorem Dei Gloriam!

  2. I think it importantly establishes who we are.

No, I'm not saying that all the members of SSP are (necessarily) good looking, or even "very nice looking," to borrow a line from a personage of no little perspicacity. But I am thinking of a saying issuing forth from Chesterton: “The whole modern world has divided itself into Conservatives and Progressives. The business of Progressives is to go on making mistakes. The business of Conservatives is to prevent mistakes from being corrected."

Boy, is he talking about some new-fangled alphabet-souped Blue Ribbon Commission, or what?

Nota bene: the Rule speaks nothing of the "conservative." It boldly endorses and confidently prays for, instead, the confessional, the liturgical, the sacramental and the spiritual renewal of the Church Augustana so gloriously headed by Christ Crucified. As such, we can never stand still in our fervor, or our faithfulness. As branches invigorated by the Vine (and His Word, Body and Blood), we grow and we stretch. The Society is less throw-back, than what was, is and ever shall be ... united together with all true saints of earth and of heaven, united together in one faith, one Baptism, and one Lord of all! Join us, if you dare.

    Your (unworthy) servant,
    Herr Doctor SSP
